Reluctant Organists Workshop

2:30pm, Saturday 25 June 2011 at Chandlers Ford Methodist Church

Over twenty organists convened for the workshop led by renowned organ teacher Alison Hogg. It covered the basics of playing the organ at services in a supportive environment with other organists and was very much appreciated by those who attended.

Alison gave help with a wide range of issues pianists who are transferring to the organ (or even those who are starting with the organ as a first instrument) face, such as where to place the bench, posture, the basics of pedalling, hymn playing, finger substitution and psalm accompaniment.

The clear message from the workshop was the need to avoid unecessary complications and the importance of good planning both in what is to be played and how it is played. Thanks are due to David Brown, who made the bookings for the event, to Paul Isted who made the arrangements with the church and to Tim Rogerson, who provided tea and cakes.
